Solomon's Sacrifice at Gibeon and Prayer for Wisdom

2 Chronicles 1:1-17

Chapter 1
1 Solomon son of David strengthened himself over his kingdom, and the LORD his God was with him, and he made him exceedingly great. 2 Solomon said to all Israel—to the chiefs of the thousands and the hundreds, to the judges, and to every prince, to all Israel, heads of the fathers. 3 Solomon went, and all the assembly with him, to the high place that was at Gibeon, for the Tent of Meeting of God was there, which Moses, the servant of the LORD, had made in the wilderness. 4 But David brought up the ark of God from Kiriath-jearim after he had prepared for it, for he had pitched a tent for it in Jerusalem. 5 The bronze altar that Bezalel son of Uri son of Hur had made—he set it before the Tabernacle of the LORD. And Solomon and the assembly inquired of it. 6 And Solomon went up there to the bronze altar before the LORD that was at the Tent of Meeting, and he went up on it and offered a thousand burnt offerings. 7 That night God appeared to Solomon and said to him, "Ask what I will give you." 8 And Solomon said to God, "You have shown great steadfast love to David my father, and you have made me king in his place." 9 Now, LORD God, let your word to David my father be confirmed, for you have made me king over a people as numerous as the dust of the earth. 10 Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people, for who can judge this great people of yours? 11 God said to Solomon, “Because this was in your heart and you did not ask for riches, possessions, or honor, or the life of your enemies, or many days, but you asked for wisdom and knowledge to govern my people, over whom I have made you king.” 12 Wisdom and knowledge are granted to you, and I will also give you wealth, possessions, and glory, such as was not given to the kings before you, nor shall it be given to those after you.” 13 And Solomon came to the high place that was at Gibeon, from before the tent of meeting at Jerusalem, and he reigned over Israel. 14 Solomon gathered chariots and horsemen. He had 1,400 chariots and 20,000 horsemen, and he placed them in the chariot cities and with the king in Jerusalem. 15 The king made silver and gold as common in Jerusalem as stones, and cedars as plentiful as sycamores in the Shephelah. 16 The export of the horses that came to Solomon was from Egypt and from Kue. The king's traders would take them from Kue at a price. 17 They brought them up and out from Egypt—a chariot for six hundred silver and a horse for one hundred and fifty—and so for all the kings of the Hittites and the kings of Aram; by their hand they brought them out.
